TOMORROW! The children will celebrate with a small party in the afternoon. Snacks and drinks are planned and the children are encouraged to wear orange and black or their favorite Halloween t-shirt to school. NO COSTUMES please!
A few additional school events to remember:
October 21 6:00-7:15 pm Parent Education Night ELEMENTARY CLASSROOMS This is a chance to learn more about how your children are learning in the Montessori way once they stop doing the Pink Tower. Also a great chance to see what's coming next, if they continue onto the Oak Room for grades 4, 5 and 6. October 23 and 30 You should have received a form saying what day your child has their Parent/Teacher Conference. There will be NO SCHOOL on either of these days. Please return the bottom half of the form by October 16, to confirm. * If anyone is interested in having a meet-up in DuBois park either of these days, put a note in the comments and we'll see about setting up something. Or if your kids need to be someplace while your meeting is taking place, maybe we can coordinate with some parents for that as well, also at the park. October 29 The class Halloween Party! We have no additional details about this yet but the following people have volunteered to bring food and drinks. We will remind you again when we know more info!
ANNUAL FUND Everyone should now be thoroughly saturated with info about the Annual Fund! If you have any questions, please contact Mary Little littlemaryhhi(at)yahoo.com We are trying to get 100% participation this year so even if it's just a dollar, please consider donating! Sharon and Beegee are working on setting up an online donation function (yes, I know the cards says it's already set up, but it's not yet). But don't wait around for that to happen! Send in your donation with your field trip money (though the checks need to be made out separately). THANK YOU! FIELD TRIPS Now the costs of field trips has been consolidated into one easy payment! 1ST GRADE November 12, 10:30am Beach Walk on Mitchelville Beach $5.00 2ND AND 3RD GRADE November 17, 9:30am Owl Pellet Dissection (Coastal Discovery Museum) $6.00 ALL ELEMENTARY April 7, 9:30am at the Arts Center on HHI Princess and the Pea $7.00 Please send in cash or a check made out to Allison Reese in the next few weeks for the field trips. You can send this to school and the teachers will make sure she receives it. 1st grade - $12.00 2nd and 3rd grade - $13.00 A few things to keep on the schedule for this month:
PICTURES Photos for the Willow Room are on the Tuesday, Oct.13th. If you would like to sign up for individual photos outside the classroom environment, learn more here FALL BREAK Remember that there is no school Friday October 9 or Monday October 12! Here are some pumpkin patches if you need something to do this weekend! Holiday Farms www.holidayfarmssc.com Dempsey Farms U Pick www.dempseyfarmsupick.com Madrac Farms http://www.madracfarms.com/ CONFERENCES Parent sign-ups for upcoming conferences will be sent home this coming week. There will be two days to choose from and Alison will try to accommodate everyone as best she can. OBSERVATION If you would like to observe your child in the classroom, you may schedule an appointment with Gail (843-757-2312) in the office. Observation continues well into the year, so you have plenty of time. FUNDRAISING To learn about some easy, peasy ways to earn money for the school, click here SCHOOL YARD SALE There will be a school-wide yard sale in November. What a great way to clean out your clutter and also teach your kid some real-life skills (pricing, making change, being responsible for your "shop", interacting with the public). And a fun way to get to know the other families at our school. IN THE CLASSROOM Meanwhile, in the Willow Room, the class is studying the parts of plants and so far they have dissected a real leaf, a small tree, and flowers. Ask your children all about it. GARDENING As you might have noticed, the flooding wiped out the entire side garden on the Bridge Street side of the building. Miss Amy (the gardening teacher) is busy making a new plan for the gardens. But in the meantime, your kids are repotting some uprooted plants, and are harvesting some rosemary to take home and dry (be sure to show them how to incorporate it into dinner! Kids love cooking what they grew!). Thanks for responding to the self-evaluation forms. The children are really interested in this and want to sit down with their parents and tell all about what they are doing in class. |
